course description

The Bachelor of Information Studies consists of a core set of foundation subjects, followed by a wide range of elective subjects, which allow for optional specialisations in Librarianship, Information and Knowledge Management, and Records and Archives Management.

Both the generic award, Bachelor of Information Studies, and the award featuring any of the specialisations in the course, are accredited by ALIA.

Normally undertaken over six years of part-time study. The course is offered by distance education study only. Applicants must have substantial access to the internet.

Successful applicants who have completed the TAFE Diploma of Library and Information Studies or equivalent will receive exemptions equivalent to four semesters of part-time study. A compulsory course-based residential school is held at the beginning of the course.

The course is also offered through the University of Hong Kong to Hong Kong residents.

ALIA accreditationBoth the generic award, Bachelor of Information Studies, and the award featuring any of the course specialisations, as offered by Charles Sturt University, are accredited by ALIA for a period of five years, from December 2011, subject to a satisfactory annual return being provided by Charles Sturt University, and the right of ALIA to reassess the courses on the occurrence of what, in ALIA's view, are exceptional circumstances, and in any event, once during that five-year period, and not later than December 2016.
Course Advisory CommitteeThe Course Advisory Committee is made up of local industry representatives who participate in reviewing and evaluating the course material and provides input into current trends in the industry.

The Course Advisory Committee meets once per year.
