WA Special Librarian of the Year
The WA Special Librarian of the Year Award is presented anually during a Library and Information Week function. It is judged by members of the committee, an industry representative and the winner of the previous year's award.
The award consists of an award trophy and a $250 cash prize.
Awards criteria
Nominees should address each of the selection criteria and give specific examples to demonstrate each.
Professional / business skills
- Delivery of convenient, accessible and cost-effective information services that are aligned with the strategic direction of the organisation/client.
- Use of appropriate business and management skills to effectively communicate the importance of library and information services to senior management and effectively promote these services to the wider community.
- Networking and sharing knowledge with others
Technical skills
- Expert library technical skills.
- Specialised subject knowledge appropriate to the business of the organisation or client.
- Innovation and ability to apply new technologies and techniques to acquire, organise and disseminate information to organisation/client.
Rules for nomination for the Special Librarian Award
Nominee / proposer / referee
- Only financial personal ALIA members are eligible for the award.
- The name of the award shall be the 'The Special Librarian Award'.
- No current committee member is eligible for the award.
- The nominee for the award must have both a proposer and a seconder. Candidates may self-nominate with a seconder.
- The proposer and referee must submit a brief resumé about the nominee to the awards committee.
- The nominee must provide a comprehensive resumé, and a document addressing the selection criteria to the awards committee.
- It must be understood that the nominee may have to attend an interview with a panel.
Awards committee
- The awards committee shall consist of at least three members, one of these being the convenor of ALIAwest.
- There shall be one member of the committee who is not a librarian and who represents the wider business community.
- The current award holder shall be invited to participate in the selection process as an award committee member.
- The award shall not be made to the same person more than once in a five year period.
- The awards committee has the right to defer the award if the selection criteria are not met.
- No correspondence shall be entered into with regard to the winner of the award and deliberations of the awards committee shall remain confidential.
- Advertisements on WAIN, Biblia and inCite will be placed to call for nominations for the award and subsequently to advertise the winner of the award.
