The South Australia Library Achiever of the Year Award
is an annual prize which aims to:
- encourage recognition of a person or a team of persons working in any sector of the library and information profession in South Australia
- provide an opportunity to promote innovation and excellence within the library and information profession
- increase the profile of the profession
The South Australia Library Achiever of the Year Award is now administered by ALIA SA, a group which aims to support and promote the interests of library and information professionals in South Australia. The award has been on offer since 2006.
The award winner will receive an inscribed plaque and $550 cash. The presentation evening will be 15 November 2011 at the State Library of South Australia.
The South Australia Library Achiever of the Year Award is very proudly sponsored by Ex Libris.
Who is eligible?
Any person or persons working in a library or information centre in South Australia is eligible for nomination.
- For individual recommendations, the individual must be a member of ALIA
- For a team, the team must be part of an organization that belongs the ALIA
Nominations can be made:
- by yourself, ie self nomination
- by the manager of your library or information centre
- by senior management of the parent body, or
- by one of your peers or a professional colleague.
What are we looking for?
The successful nomination will be judged on any of the following criteria:
- Innovative practice in the development of library and information services.
- Progress achieved in the implementation of new services or new technologies.
- Successful collaborative ventures or partnerships in library and information services.
- Creative approaches to marketing or promoting library and information services.
- Demonstrated dedication to the advancement of libraries.
Please note that nominations do not need to address all criteria.
What are the conditions of entry?
- The selection process is administered by the executive committee of ALIA SA.
- Nominations are sought from all sectors of the library and information profession in South Australia.
- Nominations must be submitted on the nomination form [PDF format, 180kb download] - also available from Jeannine Hooper - and should:
- Clearly indicate the selection criterion/criteria being addressed
- Describe the activities undertaken to meet the given criterion/criteria
- Provide a statement of support from the nominator(s)
- A portfolio, in PDF format to demonstrate evidence of the accomplishments may accompany the submission.
- Submissions are be made in electronic format (eg MS Word, HTML, PDF).
- The closing date for nominations is 4:00pm Friday 30 September 2011.
- The selection panel will comprise:
- The convenor(s) of ALIA SA, or their nominee
- A representative nominated by the sponsor
- Two members of ALIA, invited by the ALIA SA committee.
- No member of the current ALIA SA committee may be nominated.
- No member of the selection panel, or any of their immediate relations, may be nominated.
- The decisions made by the selection panel are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- ALIA SA reserves the right to withhold an award should the selection panel advise that no nominees have met the given criteria.
- ALIA membership, either individual or organization membership
- If a person is nominated – the person must be a current member of ALIA
- If a team is nominated – the team must be part of an organization that belongs to ALIA
How do I submit a nomination?
The completed nomination form [PDF format, 180kb download] and any accompanying documentation of 2 attachments (maximum 2GB total) should be forwarded to:
