ALIA Letter of Recognition

The ALIA Letter of Recognition may be presented to a person or organisation who/which has rendered a significant, special or specific service to:
- Librarianship, libraries or information management; or
- The promotion and development of libraries or library services; or
- The Australian Library and Information Association; or
- For demonstrating such service over a period of time.
Receipt of an ALIA Letter of Recognition shall not preclude the recipient from later receiving a Fellowship or other award of the Association, nor are people who are already Fellows precluded from receiving an ALIA Letter of Recognition.
Nominations for an ALIA Letter of Recognition may be submitted at any time and will be considered by the National Awards Panel.
Eligibility
Nominees for the ALIA Letter of Recognition need not be financial members of the Australian Library and Information Association or members of the profession.
The ALIA Letter of Recognition may be awarded more than once to a person for different achievements, and it may be awarded to more than one recipient in any given year.
Nominations
Any person or organisation may be nominated for an ALIA Letter of Recognition. Nominations must be made by at least two financial personal or institutional representative members of the association. The nomination shall be confidential, and the nominee must not be aware of the nomination.
Evidence
Nominators should state their working or professional relationship to the nominee.
Nominators must provide a written statement providing sufficient and appropriate evidence to demonstrate the nominee's suitability for the award.
Documentation should provide:
- evidence of a particular, significant service to ALIA, or
- evidence of sustained and significant service to ALIA, or
- evidence of a significant particular or ongoing contribution to librarianship, libraries or information management, or
- evidence of significant particular or ongoing contribution to the promotion or development of libraries and information services.
The nominee's suitability will be assessed by the National Awards Committee in terms of the above eligibility criteria and evidence.
Note: All nominations must be CONFIDENTIAL, and the nominee MUST NOT be aware of the nomination.
