About the Ray Choate award

Ray

One of ALIA's research awards, the Ray Choate Scholarship, as it is now known, was originally instituted in the early 1990s by ALIA's Reference and Information Services Section (RAISS) as the Ray Choate RAISS Biennial Travelling Scholarship.

The award honours Ray Choate, University Librarian, University of Adelaide and was established in recognition of his important contribution to ALIA and the profession more generally.

Ray was instrumental in establishing RAIS as an ALIA section and has consistently supported and encouraged reference and information service librarians to further their professional development.

The Scholarship aims to provide opportunities for practitioners with an understanding of and experience in reference and information services to undertake a project which has the potential to further develop reference and information services in all their forms and/or the knowledge and skills of those working in this area.

The Ray Choate Scholarship is offered biennially and was last awarded in 2005.
