ALIA employment pages

Apart from the summary material provided here, there is an extensive range of members-only pagesmembers-only containing detailed information and resources for ALIA members (employees and employers). The information provided covers topics such as changes to industrial relations laws, accidents at work, library workforce data and rights and obligations when facing redundancy.

Update: November

Library salaries
The 2008 NSW Crown Employees wage case has now been determined by the State Industrial Commission and includes rates of pay granted for the next three years for library workers in NSW. These rates are those recommended by ALIA for library workers throughout Australia and are now listed under 'Salary scales and worklevel guidelines' to the left of this update. The pay increases which will take effect from 1 July each year are based on an annual 4% adjustment.

Workplace relations legislation
It is expected that during November the Rudd Government will introduce its next phase of workplace law reforms. The foreshadowed legislation will cover award modernisation, enterprise-level collective bargaining, revised unfair dismissal laws, with special arrangements for small business, and establishment of Fair Work Australia as a 'one-stop shop' for workplace matters.

The Government's intention is that much of the new legislation will take effect from 1 July 2009, earlier than the original date of January 2010.

Details of the forthcoming legislation are set out in fact sheets at www.workplace.gov.au/workplace/Publications/PolicyReview/ForwardwithFairness

This page and 'Workwatch' articles in inCite will provide regular updates concerning workplace relations changes.
