Update: October

The main news covering employment and industrial relations has been the announcement of the next phase of the Rudd Government's workplace reforms. Before the end of this year legislation will be introduced into Federal Parliament covering award modernisation, enterprise-level collective bargaining, establishment of Fair Work Australia as a 'one-stop shop' for workplace matters and revised unfair dismissal laws, with special arrangements for small businesses.

The Government's intention is that much of the new legislation will take effect from 1 July 2009, earlier than the original date of January 2010.
