How to subscribe to an ALIAnet e-listChoose the ALIAnet e-list that you wish to join, or subscribe to. Then, follow the guidelines set out below. Subscribe, using the e-list web interface
... or by e-mail
If you get it right, then you will be advised that either your subscription request is being approved, or that you need to confirm your subscription request, or that your subscription request has been forwarded to the list-owner for approval. Before you go further, please read our general operating rules. If you get it wrong, a number of things might happen: you will receive a message saying what went wrong, sent automatically from the list server software; or you might receive a message from the list-owner (the person who has control over the list), or the list-manager (the person who has control over all lists, in a more general sense) suggesting what to do next; or you might get an automated message from your mail server saying that what you are tryng to do is not possible - this usually happens if your e-mail service is configured incorrectly. How to unsubscribe from an ALIAnet e-listTo unsubscribe from ALIAnet e-lists, you will need your list subscription password. If you can't remember your password, a reminder can be issued. Unsubscribe, using the e-list web interfaceHead to the e-list web interface [http://lists.alia.org.au/mailman/listinfo/yourelistname - where 'yourelistname' is the name of your e-list], and enter your e-mail address in the right-hand box. You'll be presented with a page of options for the e-mail adress that you entered. Enter your list password, and click 'Unsubscribe'. If you don't know your list subscription password, ask for your password to be e-mailed to your subscribed e-mail address - and then proceed. A response is usually within minutes. ...or by e-mailPlease send an email to ITHelpdesk@alia.org.au containing the email address that you originally used to subscribe and the title of the e-list that you want to be removed from. Sending messages to your chosen e-listOnce subscribed to an e-list, send all messages to 'aliaXYZ@lists.alia.org.au' (where aliaXYZ is the name of the e-list). Note that all addresses and commands are case-insensitive, so that 'SUBSCRIBE' is equal to 'subscribe' and 'aliaXYZ@lists.alia.org.au' is equal to 'AliaXyz@lists.alia.org.au'. Note that the address which you post list messages to is not the same address which you use to send instructional commands to the list. Adding '-request' to the list name will pass your message to the list request handler. Getting helpIf you need advice from a human, contact the relevant list-owner first ['aliaXZY-owner@lists.alia.org.au.nospam' (please remove '.nospam' from address)]. If they can't help, or if you feel that the issue cannot be discussed with anyone related to the e-list, contact the ALIAnet e-list administrator ['mailman-owner@lists.alia.org.au.nospam' (please remove '.nospam' from address)]. If you want to find out how to manage your e-list subscription by e-mail, send the following command: 'help' (without the quotes) to 'aliaXYZ-request@lists.alia.org.au', where 'aliaXYZ' is the name of your e-list. Changing addressesIf you are about to change your e-mail address, it is best to unsubscribe and then re-subcribe from your new address. However, if your e-mail address changes before you get a chance to do anything, send a message to the e-list that you wish to unsubscribe from ['aliaXYZ-request@lists.alia.org.au'] with the following request 'unsubscribe password jo.bloggs@defgh.com.au' where 'password' is the password for the old subscription and 'jo.bloggs@defgh.com.au' is your old address. |
