ALIA's e-list guidelines are currently under review - May 2007.

Operational rules for using ALIAnet e-lists

At its July 1997 meeting, ALIA General Council endorsed the following guidelines concerning the use of ALIAnet mailing lists. At present there are a number of electronic lists being served by ALIAnet. Each one has a 'sign-on' message to indicate to users the scope of topics permitted and the 'rules of play'. The following text applies to the use of all mailing lists on ALIAnet, and will progressively become part of the standard message attached to the initial sign-on welcome message from each list.

Rules of use

'By continuing your subscription to this list, you agree to hold ALIAnet and the list-owners harmless for any opinions expressed on this mailing list. Opinions stated do not necessarily reflect the opinions of ALIAnet or the list-owner.

'Subscribers are expected to maintain standards of 'netiquette' as outlined in such guides as found on the ALIAnet e-lists web page [http://alia.org.au/alianet/e-lists/netiquette.html]. List-owners or the list manager have the right to remove any subscriber for breaching these guidelines at any time and without notice. Using ALIAnet e-lists for commercial gain warrants such a removal.

'Under no circumstances may addresses from ALIAnet lists be compiled, collected or used for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial, other than in mail regarding the topic of the list.

'Addresses may not be used for mass mailings ('spams') or databases without the express written permission of the individual subscriber. All lists are deemed to be 'private', regardless of the 'review' setting.

'The copyright to an individual posting made to any ALIAnet list is held by the individual poster. The copyright to the subscriber list in its entirety is held by the list-owner. The copyright to the compilation of postings to any ALIAnet list is held by the list-owner.

'Redistribution of the postings made to any ALIAnet list without the express written permission of the list-owner is forbidden. All redistribution must include the original mail headers crediting the source of the material.

'Your continued subscription to this list is a tacit and implied agreement to the rules of this list.'
