Safer Internet Day – 10 February 2009

The main objective of Safer Internet Day 2009 is to bring together relevant public and private stakeholders, in as many countries as possible, to raise awareness about safe and responsible use of new technologies especially among children and young people. In Australia, it is coordinated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

ALIA Public Libraries Summit – Thursday 26 March 2009

The Summit will invite the federal government to engage with ALIA, other library associations, and the public library associations and network around Australia, to develop a national agenda. Participants will be invited to attend. In addition to those invited to the Summit, all interested people and groups are invited to submit working papers. These papers must be submitted by Friday 27 February 2009.

The ALIA PD Scheme audit

The PD Scheme audit is starting soon. Selection for participation in the audit is completely random and will involve 10% of the PD Scheme registrants. All members selected to participate in the 2007-2008 audit will be required to provide a record of PD activities as per the requirements of the scheme. Expression of Interest for ALIA National Library and Information Technicians Conference 2011

The ALIA Board of Directors is asking for formal expressions of interest for the ALIA National Library and Information Technicians Conference to be held in 2011.

Groups interested in submitting a bid are asked to refer to the ALIA Conference Manual located at http://conferences.alia.org.au/conference.resources/ to assist them with the writing of their formal proposal. Interested members and groups can seek advice from ALIA's Events Manager, Kamara Schlegel, and from previous conference committees. ALIA Biennial Conference 2010/2012

The ALIA Biennial Conference will not be held in 2010 as Australia will host the World Library and Information Congress 76th IFLA General Conference and Council in Brisbane. ALIA invites all of its members to join us and 4,000 other professional colleagues from around the world, for a week of networking and professional development. ALIA will be calling for Expressions of Interests from ALIA groups in early 2009 for the opportunity to host the 2012 ALIA Biennial Conference.
