ALIA-ASLA Policy Advisory Group - seeking member
ALIA is looking for an interested member to join the ALIA-ASLA Policy Advisory Group. Candidates should hold teacher-librarian qualifications. Library Stars: best of the best 2008 - Call for submissions
The Library Stars forum, hosted by ALIA’s Public Libraries Advisory Committee (PLAC), will showcase public libraries, their projects, and successes on 2 September 2008 at a satellite event as part of the ALIA 2008 Biennial Conference in Alice Springs. Public libraries are invited to submit a proposal for presentation. Three will be selected and those libraries will be given a travel grant of $1,000 each to assist with costs in attending the conference. ALIA AGM- Call for Motions by 13 March
Motions for discussion at the AGM need to be forwarded in writing to the ALIA Executive Director P.O. Box 6335, Kingston, ACT 2604 by 13 March 2008. They need to be signed by the movers either individually or on behalf of a division/group of the Association. Call for group committee members – APSIG
The ALIA Asia Pacific Special Interest Group is seeking new members for the committee, including a new Convenor. Members interested in the Asia Pacific region and with international connections may be interested in this group. Members from around Australia are welcome. With IFLA2010 in Brisbane there will also be opportunities to engage with the region during the next few years. 2008 Jean Primrose Whyte Churchill Fellowship
The Churchill Trust is seeking applications from **SA residents only** for Fellowships to be awarded in June 2008 for the study of an aspect of library and information services. Each Fellowship available has an average value of $25,000 and includes return economy airfare and an oversea living allowance. There are no prescribed qualifications required with the merit of the proposal being the primary test. Applications for the award of Fellowships in the 2008 round need to be submitted between 1 November 2007 and 29 February 2008.http://www.churchilltrust.com.au
ALIA Education and Workforce Summit 2008 – submission deadline 12 March
The Education and Workforce Summit will be held on Friday 28 March 2008 at the State Library of Victoria. It will be informed by critical issues in library and information education and in the library workforce. All ALIA members and groups are invited to make submissions and comments to the Summit and view the background papers. Papers not marked confidential will be made available on the website. Deadline for submission is Wednesday 12 March.An open forum will be held on the 27th March at the Village Roadshow Theatrette, State Library of Victoria, for those interested in a pre-summit discussion.

ALIA Information Online Conference and Exhibition 2009 – Call for papers
The leading conference for the online information industry in the Asia-Pacific region, Information Online will be held in Sydney 20 -22 January 2009 with Satellite events Monday 19 and Friday 23 January. The Call for papers is now on. Deadline is 28 March 2008.http://www.information-online.com.au
4th ALIA New Librarians Symposium – Call for Papers
The 4th ALIA New Librarians Symposium (NLS4) will be held in Melbourne on 5-6 December 2008. The NLS4 Committee is calling for papers in keeping with the Symposium theme of ‘Breaking Barriers’. Online submission, lodged no later than Friday, 4 April 2008 is the only method for the receipt of abstracts. Australia 2020 Summit
The Prime Minister has announced that the ‘Australia 2020’ summit will be held on 19 and 20 April 2008. Nominations and a submission are being prepared in conjunction with other library associations; the submission will be jointly presented by ALIA and Public Libraries Australia.http://www.australia2020.gov.au/news/index.cfm
Jean Arnot Memorial Fellowship 2008
Awarded to a female librarian or student of librarianship for an outstanding paper on any aspect of librarianship, this Fellowship is funded by the National Council of Women in New South Wales Incorporated and the Australian Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Associations Incorporate. An award of $1000 will be presented to the winner at the annual Jean Arnot Memorial Luncheon to be held on 9 May 2008.
