ALIA Boardroom Bound
Have you thought about nominating for the ALIA board but wasn't entirely sure what would be involved or how to go about it? Boardroom Bound, ALIA's board succession planning programme, is here to help. It will provide the opportunity for members to learn about the function of the ALIA Board and the role of the board director. It will also provide the means for ALIA members who have an interest in pursuing a future appointment to the board to develop their knowledge, skills and competencies in this area. The ultimate aim of the succession plan is to increase the number of high quality ALIA members available for board nomination.http://www.alia.org.au/governance/board/boardroombound/

ALIA 2008 Biennial Conference - dreaming08
The ALIA 2008 Biennial Conference will be held in Alice Springs from 2-5 September 2008. The Call for Papers is now open. Start planning to attend the conference next year and stay longer to visit this exciting and unusual place! Alice Springs is an iconic location, the desert heart of the country, the red centre and a place that every Australian should visit during their lifetime. Take a camel trip out into the desert, sip champagne and watch a sunset turn the rock formations red, swim in the permanent waterholes or walk the Larapinta Track. The day following the conference, Saturday 6 September 2008, the Henley on Todd Regatta is being held - the event where eccentric locals race boats up the dry river bed.http://www.alia2008.com/
'The Librarians' blog
'The Librarians', a six-part ABC TV comedy, goes to air on 31 October 2007. ALIA now has a great new blog to facilitate discussion about the show. The blog is for musing about how the series portrays us, how other media portray us and how others see us and how we see ourselves. Comments are invited from anyone interested in the show. For a synopsis and flyer: http://www.abc.net.au/abccontentsales/s2017580.htm

This biennial award gives library technicians the opportunity to undertake a project of relevance to their role in the profession. Rebecca's project 'Preserving our past to educate our future' aims to identify, collate and catalogue photographs and other information into an image database, thus collecting and preserving a history of library technicians that will provide a valuable resource not only for library technicians but for the wider library and information profession. For previous scholarship reports, visit: http://www.alia.org.au/awards/dunn.wilson/recipients.html
