Hooray for Hollywood!
It seems it's not just Australian producers putting librarians on the
red carpet. Members may know of the launch this month of The Hollywood
Librarian, a film about librarian derring-do made by Ann Seidl (also a
librarian) and premiered at the 2007 ALA Conference. We've had a lot
of inquiries about getting hold of the film and ALIA is attempting to
do just that, so it can travel around Australia for members to share.
Watch this space for more on this, and in the meantime, check out the
film at

National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries
An Exposure Draft of a new initiative, 'National Standards for
Australian Museums and Galleries', was released for comment during May
2007. ALIA members with an interest in heritage collections are warmly
invited to consider the Draft and provide feedback by 15 August. The
National Standards Taskforce has worked collaboratively during the
last year to produce a set of agreed standards that are rigorous in
their scope and requirements, and that will serve as an accessible and
useful tool for all museums and galleries, regardless of size and
resources, throughout Australia. The Exposure Draft and feedback
template are available from the Collections Council of Australia
website.

Partnership between government and business helps Australian music
The National Library of Australia and a leading Australian digital
music provider, destra Media, have entered into an innovative
government-business partnership to enhance the MusicAustralia online
service. MusicAustralia, hosted by the National Library, showcases
Australia's musical culture and helps people to discover and explore
all types of Australian music - from the earliest published to the
latest hit. Its innovation lies in the way it links the business,
arts, academic, cultural and information sectors to provide a coherent
vision of the nation's music.
