Nominations for ALIA Vice-president and two directors

Nominations are called for Vice-president and two Director positions on the Board of Directors of ALIA, as incorporated under Corporations Law. Nominees should be personal members of the Association. Nominations must be in writing from two financial members of the Association and include the consent (in writing) of the nominee. A 100-word current curriculum vitae must accompany the nomination. Review of ALIA policy statements


pic The Board of Directors is reviewing the Association's seminal policy statements: 'Core Values Statement', 'Statement on Free Access to Information' and 'Statement on Professional Conduct'. The Board is seeking comments and suggestions from ALIA members to ensure the statements maintain currency and continue to promote the Association's objects. Comments due before 1 March 2007.

Health Libraries Australia Symposium: Information Rx, 2-3 February 2007

Elizabeth Swan made a Fellow of ALIA


ALIA would like to receive expressions of interest in hosting the ALIA ALIA is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Swan has been awarded an ALIA Fellowship by the Board of Directors. This is a timely recognition of, among other contributions to the field, Elizabeth's long leadership of the ALIA Information Online conference, where her award will be presented at the conference dinner. Her work in professional development activities for Australian librarians is important and of long standing. She was a founding member of the LAA's Information Science section in the mid-seventies and served continuously on the National and NSW Section in various capacities for 25 years. Elizabeth was made an Honorary Member of ALIA in 2003.

Jean Arnot Memorial Fellowship 2007


Funded by the National Council of Women in New South Wales Incorporated and the Australian Federation of Business and Professional Women's Associations Incorporated, this annual Fellowship honours Jean Fleming Arnot (1903-1995) MBE, FLAA. It is awarded to a female librarian or student of librarianship for an outstanding paper of no more than 5000 words on any aspect of librarianship. entries close on 1 April 2007. Call for expressions of interest: ALIA Library and Information Technicians


ALIA would like to receive expressions of interest in hosting this conference in 2009 from groups in Australia. Bids should address the aims of the conference. Interested members and groups can seek advice from ALIA's Events Manager, Jane Hardy, and from previous conference committees. The organising committee can expect about 400 delegates. ALIA Library and Information Technicians Conference 2007 - call for papers


Contributions are invited for conference papers, tutorials and interactive workshop presentations appropriate to the daily themes of inform, innovate, initiate and inspire. First-time presenters will be offered coaching in presentation skills. To be eligible to submit an abstract, you must also intend to register for the conference, which will be held in Melbourne, 9-12 October 2007. All abstracts must be submitted online, must be original work and not previously presented in any form at other conferences. Presenters may opt to submit full papers for peer review.
