John Levett retires at the end of 2006
We celebrate the work John Levett has done for ALJ. John has been editor not once, but twice, from 1981 to 1991 and from 1995 to the present. He has continued the journal's tradition of encouraging new writers to spread their wings, enabling the development of both professionals and a professional literature. He has made ALJ a reflection of both the scholarly and the practice-based writing generated by the many sectors of the library and information profession. It is also a record of John's intellectual engagement in many areas and (like all good editors) of his idiosyncrasies. Many of his editorials have been read with relish, and his drive for the excellent rather than the faddish is well known. John, we wish you an existence free of deadlines and exigent authors, but still full of contacts with your many friends and colleagues. (A more formal farewell will be held later in the year.)
New editor for ALJ
ALIA is pleased to announce that Ian McCallum has accepted the editorship of our flagship publication, The Australian Library Journal (ALJ). Ian is widely known in the Australian library sector. He has been a member of ALIA since 1971, was President of the Association in 1986, and his contributions to the industry made him a worthy recipient of the Association's prestigious HCL Anderson Award for outstanding service to librarianship in 2002. He will produce his first issue of ALJ early in 2007.
Subscribe now to the Australian Library Journal!
The ALJ is now in its 55th year of publication. It was founded in 1951, the year the Library Association of Australia (now ALIA) was begun. It has reflected and celebrated the changes and developments of the library and information profession, and we look forward to the next 55 years. The August 2006 issue will be out soon, and includes articles on the ASO's knowledge management standard, developing a telephone enquiry service and continuing professional development.
