Library and Information Week 2006
Library and Information Week (LIW) promotes the fabulous resources libraries and information services offer to all Australians. A free flow of and equitable access to information is vital in a democratic society, and libraries ensure information is available to everyone: we are linking people with ideas. ALIA media releases will cover LIW2006 and two hot topics - internet filtering and knowing your local community through the Census and statistics - created with the help of our sponsors, NetAlert and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Media kits are available to supplement your own local media program, and the releases will be posted on the LIW website.

Library and Information Week merchandise
Library and Information Week is our chance to celebrate our contribution to the information and recreation needs of all Australians. There are activities, events, competitions, product launches and presentations at national, state and local levels. 2006 LIW promotional materials include a colourful poster, bookmarks, balloons and wristbands. These are all available now on our online shop or you can download and mail an order form. It's a big week, made possible with the help of our sponsors, ABS and NetAlert. So slap up a poster, grab a bookmark and hang on to your balloon... LIW is coming!

Information Awareness Month
ALIA sponsors Information Awareness Month (IAM). May 2006 is the first IAM and the theme is 'Personal Records'. IAM raises public awareness of the importance of good records and maintenance of information as it relates to everyone, from global corporations to the individual, in all aspects of life.
