Have you nominated yet?
The nomination deadline of 3 February for ALIA vice-president and three director positions is looming. Full details of the nomination procedure were printed in the December issue of inCite and are now online, including nomination forms.

Industrial relations - making history
The much-publicised Workplace Relations Amendment Act has now passed through both Houses of Parliament. It overturns more than a century of Australian industrial relations law and practice. Its central feature is use of constitutional corporations powers to bypass state regulation of most working conditions and industrial disputation. How much of the Act becomes law will be decided by the result of a High Court challenge to its constitutionality lodged by the states. ALIA will provide guidance to members on the new system when its final shape is clear. A preliminary analysis is now available.

LLOs: your local contacts
ALIA's new local liaison officer (LLO) for Queensland is Claudia Davies. Claudia is a part-time librarian with Legal Aid Queensland's Library Services. Queenslanders are encouraged to contact Claudia on ph 0407 964 967 [claudia.davies@alia.org.au]. Welcome aboard, Claudia! To the west, Kay Poustie has resigned as LLO for Western Australia. Kay was the first ALIA LLO: we will miss her greatly and have very much appreciated all of her work representing the Association. Kay will continue with her many other ALIA commitments including her co-ordinating role with Click06.

NSW Mentoring Program 2006
The ALIA NSW Mentoring Program began in 2005 and had a great year. The feedback from mentors and proteges was very positive. It is running in 2006, but due to an error on the application forms, none was received prior to 16 December. Apologies! If you submitted an application before this date, please submit your form again.
