Review of interlibrary resource sharing code
The Interlibrary Resource Sharing (ILRS) Code is the voluntary code of practice that supports co-operative, fair and efficient resource sharing between Australian libraries. ALIA's Interlibrary Lending Expert Advisory Group (ILLEAG) invites interested individuals, libraries and organisations to contribute to a review of the Code. A discussion paper addressing the purpose and principles of the Code, service-level standards and recommended pricing is now available for comment. The deadline for comment is 31 August 2005. Power searching with the pros workshops
ALIA and Web Search Pacific are pleased to announce that they will co-host the next round of Power searching with the pros workshops with Mary Ellen Bates and Chris Sherman in Melbourne (29-30 Aug), Canberra (1-2 Sep) and Sydney (5-6 Sep). LEVEL 1 is a one-day workshop that introduces the main concepts. whilst LEVEL 2 is a one-day advanced workshop for information professionals who have already attended previous Web Search Pacific workshops. You can read aloud summit
The inaugural Read Aloud Summit [31 Aug-1 Sep 2005] will be held in Brighton, NSW, and brings together a broad range of practitioners including teachers, librarians, health workers, childcare workers, parents, authors, business people, politicians, social workers - to hear what is happening in Australia and overseas in early childhood literacy. The Summit is organised by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training with a special interest by education minister Dr Brendan Nelson, Mem Fox, and Dymocks Literacy Foundation CEO, Julie Urquhart. National Simultaneous Storytime 2005

3rd International Evidence-based Librarianship Conference
At the Holiday Inn, Brisbane from 16-19 October 2005. New Directions - ALIA Symposium for Special Librarians
ALIA, in partnership with Information Edge, is thrilled to announce New Directions - ALIA Symposium for Special Librarians, will be held on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 November 2005 at the RACV Club Melbourne, Victoria. New Directions will take place over one and a half days and is aimed at finding new ways for special librarians to re-position themselves as vital, integral parts of their organisations. The program will take on the combined format of keynote speakers, workshop sessions and panel sessions.

Churchill Fellowship for SA public librarian
Congratulations to Janice Nitschke who has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship for 2005. Janice has been awarded the Professor Jean Primrose Whyte Churchill Fellowship to study the evolving role of the public library in the community and how they participate in community initiatives with the goal of service integration. She will study library services in the United Kingdom, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Canada and the USA. Janice is director, Library and Information Services, Wattle Range Council, SA, is president of Public Libraries SA and is a member of ALIA's Public Libraries Reference Group.

ALIA appointment
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Karen McVicker as managing editor, ALIA National Office. Karen will be developing scholarly or practice-related publishing opportunities to support ALIA's strategic plan initiatives and member services, including new products, and cross-channel publishing - as well as ensuring high editorial standards across ALIA's publishing program, including inCite.

Adult Learners Week 2005
Adult Learners' Week is on 1-8 September 2005. The online calendar for Adult Learners' Week 2005 lists events around Australia. You can also add your own ALW event or amend an entry you have previously made. This year, Adult Learners' Week celebrates its tenth anniversary in Australia. The international guest speaker for Adult Learners' Week 2005 will be Mr Alan Tuckett, OBE. During his visit to Australia, Alan will be travelling to most city centres and will attend key events during ALW 2005.

Australian Society of Archivists and ALIA sign MoU
On 28 July 2005, Dr Gillian Hallam, ALIA president, and Catherine Robinson, ASA president, signed a memorandum of understanding that acknowledges the commonality of purpose between the two organisations. The memorandum of understanding commits the two organisations to maximising co-operation, communications and collaborations on issues of joint concern.
