ALIA Online shop is here!
ALIA's online shop was launched at the National Policy Congress 2004, and is now open for business. Online payments for new membership applications, books, journals and merchandise are now possible through our secure server. Mrs Linda Martin, who puchased a membership package, was our very first customer: 'It was actually a very simple process - no problems at all!'

Closing the gender pay gap
In August 2004, ALIA lodged a submission with the Western Australian Gender Pay Gap Review [http://alia.org.au/advocacy/submissions/wa.gender.html]. That Review has now been completed. Its findings were released by the WA Government this week. The final report makes sweeping recommendations directed at closing the gender pay gap. Many are consistent with recommendations made in ALIA's submission. In particular, the Review recommends that WA employers conduct pay equity reviews and that this be mandatory in the public sector. It recommends similar audits by private sector employers on a voluntary basis. More detailed analysis of the findings (worth reading!)...

ALIA Groups set free!
Following a directive from the ALIA Board of Directors, all ALIA groups pages now sit in the 'public domain'. Access to newsletters, activities, and other information no longer requires member password access. All older URLs will be redirected automatically, but please update your bookmarks by dropping the '/members-only/' string in your URLs to save the load on our servers.

Board of Directors - call for nominations
Nominations are called for ALIA vice-president (president-elect) and two positions on the ALIA Board of Directors. Nominees should be personal members of the Association and will represent the interests of the organisation as a whole rather than those of a particular constituency. The closing date for nominations is 1 February 2005.

Applications are now open for the formal mentoring program offered by the ALIA Mentoring NSW Group, open to Associate or Library Technicians of ALIA living in NSW. Mentors have the opportunity to reaffirm their professional knowledge, experience and skills, gain an understanding of the experience and viewpoints of new professionals, and contribute actively to the development of the LIS profession.
