New advocacy resource for ALIA members
Members may be interested to know that there is a new resource on the ALIA website, containing a toolkit of 'how to' guides for advocacy and lobbying activities. Currently there are two guides, the first containing information on raising sponsorship, and the second containing tips on how to deal with the media. Additional content will be added in coming weeks. To view, visit the ALIA website.

Research exchange and partnership initiative
Are you involved/interested in research and project work? Would you like to become a researcher? Then REAP is for you. ALIA's Research Exchange and Partnership has been established to foster and support research and innovation in library and information services. REAP provides a forum for discussing and sharing ideas about projects that you may be working on or that you would like to become involved in. To learn more about REAP and ALIA e-prints where you can publish in-progress and final reports about your work, visit the REAP webpage. For more information, please contact Marie Murphy [marie.murphy@alia.org.au].

Library and Information Week 2004
Australian Library and Information Week [Monday 24 May to Sunday 30 May 2004] aims to raise awareness of the value of libraries and information services and information professionals in Australia. The week promotes our professional services and skills to user communities and the public, introduces new services, and canvasses issues of importance to the provision of library and information services. The theme, 'Down and loaded: the right information at the right time', was chosen to acknowledge and celebrate the innovative activities and services provided by library and information professionals, focusing on the delivery of information via the online environment.

Free trade, and copyright
Sugar farmers aren't the only sacrificial victims in the Australia-US trade agreement. Library and information users have also lost out in our Government's adoption of the US copyright regime. The American and Canadian library associations and academics in Australia, Canada and th United States have opposed US extensions of copyright and restrictive digital technology rules as distortions of the copyright balance. The March issue of inCite will explain some of the defects of this trade agreement.

The deadline for the survey has been extended to accommodate those who are at the far end of Australia Post's delivery run: this is your chance to tell us what you think of inCite. Please respond before 9:00am 16 February 2004, either using the fax-back form, or online via the website.
