Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, AC will present the opening address at the ALIA2002 Conference in Sydney on Monday 19 May. The conference program features 16 eminent and sometimes controversial speakers who will speculate on our possible future as a knowledge economy and how to get there. Issues such as intellectual capital, convergence and access to information will be explored. Download the registration brochure or register online. Act now and save $100 - the deadline for Early-bird registration has been extended to 15 March. The conference will be held at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre, Darling Harbour from 19-22 May 2002 (no - not September or October!).

What about my Group's webpages?
Each ALIA group has an individual website on ALIAnet at http://www.alia.org.au/groups/. A generic template sets up each group initially. However, office-bearers are responsible for modifying and adding content, by following the 'comments' link at the foot of each page (no html coding required). Extra content, new content, logos, pictures, links to affiliated interests, and much more are all possible. To aid with navigation, there are some elements of page layout that cannot be altered, but otherwise office-bearers are free to craft their site to suit group member's desires.

Thinking of the IFLA conference in Glasgow?
We are exploring with our travel agent the possibilities for cheap group fares for any of our members planning to go to Glasgow in August. We require a minimum of ten people travelling to Glasgow on or near the same date. It does not need to be the same flight - for example, Perth delegates could fly out from Perth rather than Sydney. You would then be able to plan your own itinerary with our travel agent for return, or any additional travel. Please let us know soon if you are interested. If there is enough interest we can move to the next stage of finding the best deals.

That Honda advertisement...
Thanks to everyone who has notified us of the current Honda print advertisement running in America. We've followed this matter up with Honda Australia, who tell us that the car featured is not for sale in Australia and that therefore the advertisement is unlikely to run here. However, we aren't letting the matter rest, and Honda Australia are now on our list of potential sponsors should the opportunity presents itself in the future. If nothing else, the advertisement demonstrates that there is still considerable mileage to be gained from an association with librarians!

Board of Directors ballot, meeting
Just a reminder that the Board of Directors elections are in full swing, and that the ballot papers are going out in March inCite and by mail. The Board next meets on 11 March, in Canberra.
