ALW dates for the next two years approved
ALIA General Council has endorsed the dates for Australian Library Week 2000 and 2001. They are: 15-21 May 2000 and 14-20 May 2001. We will keep you informed about design and availability of promotional material (and the theme) but your early planning
for ALW2000 activities will ensure that it will be a great success!
Renewal discussion on new bulletin board
The future of the Association is important to us all, and we encourage all members to have input into the renewal process debate. The closing date for this round of comments on the Renewal Working Group's options paper as published in the June 1999
issue of inCite is 31 July, for consideration by the Renewal Working Group on 6 August 1999. You may choose to submit confidential material directly to the RWG, or use the specially-constructed bulletin board as an open forum for discussion. There
is already considerable debate taking place in this forum. I urge all members to at least read what is being discussed!

ALIA Annual Report 1998 published
On the web and about to be distributed in print as an insert to this month's inCite, the Association's Annual Report 1998 is a full report of the year's activities. Split into easily-browsable parts, the report reflects on a busy and
exhilarating year for the Association. Archives of previous year's annual reports are also online, for comparison: http://www.alia.org.au/publishing/annual.reports/.
Seniors Online Day
As part of Adult Learners Week, Adult Learning Australia (ALA), in partnership with the National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE), will be organising the inaugural Seniors On-Line Day on 7 September. To coincide with the International Year of
the Older Person, the day is dedicated to older Australians accessing and using the Internet. NOIE has approached ALIA to be a partner in this day of activity, and we have agreed to promote this inaugural Day and encourage all libraries to participate.
NOIE welcomes any input on tutorials and useful sites, and if you or your library run seniors online activities (either on the day or as part of your normal program of activities), please contact Juliana Ngiam at the NOIE [juliana.ngiam@noie.gov.au].
Congratulations to new general councillors
The ballot for two institutional and two personal member positions on ALIA General Council conducted under Principle 1 of the Charter of Renewal has been declared. We congratulate and welcome to General Council the following members: Janette Wright,
Ruth McIntyre, Marion Boyd and Carolyn Young. Janette and Ruth have been elected to the two institutional member positions; Marion and Carolyn to the two personal member positions. All have taken up their positions following declaration of the ballot.
Under Regulation C25 of the constitution, General Council has appointed the four general councillors to 31 December 2000, subject to changes in the governance and structure of the Association: http://archive.alia.org.au/gc/councillors.html.
General Council 2000/2001 nominations
Nominations are called for Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australian and Western Australian general councillors. Nominees must be financial members of the Association at the time of nomination; however they need not be
professional members. Terms of office for the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australian and Western Australian general councillors end on 31 December 1999. Under ALIA's Constitution new general councillors will be elected to hold
office from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2001. Please note that the period of office for general councillors is subject to changes to the Association's governance and structure as it moves towards incorporation under Corporations Law. Nominations
deadline, 1 September 1999: http://www.alia.org.au/governance/elections/.
Final notice of AGM
The 11th ALIA annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday 17 August 1999 at 6.00pm at the ABC Theatrette, 700 Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney: http://www.alia.org.au/governance/meetings/agm/1999.agenda.html.
Proxies may be forwarded to the acting executive director. To be valid, proxies must be received in ALIA National Office by 5.00pm on 10 August 1999. Further information and a proxy form is available at: [http://www.alia.org.au/governance/meetings/agm/1999.proxy.html].
Have you voted for ALIAnet?
The fourth annual Australian Financial Review/Telstra Australian Internet Awards Competition are in full swing. ALIAnet didn't make it to the semi-finalist stage, but you can still vote for ALIAnet as the most popular site. Indeed, we urge you to do so
NOW. With only a few days left to vote [until 5:00pm, 6 August], we need to build up the numbers. If every aliaNEWS subscriber and four friends voted for ALIAnet, we may indeed clinch the title... http://www.webawards.com.au.
But even if we don't win overall, the very latest ALIAnet guestbook addition tells its own story. Read what we are doing for immigration and the Association in the latest posting that arrived earlier this week. We don't make these up! http://www.alia.org.au/alianet/guestbook/.
Feedback
We have been thrilled by the response to aliaNEWS from subscribers. It is gratifying to know that we are providing a useful and timely information, and in a format that is easy to read. We now have countless supportive and constructive compliments (but
are always eager for more!). As always, though, we would like to know your thoughts on what you would like to see in this broadcast, and how you would like to see it.
Send your comments to Ivan Trundle, manager, communications and publishing (please remove the '.nospam' from address).
