Shaping the new Association
The ALIA Renewal Working Group has identified three significant elements as fundamental to shaping the new Association: the Objects, governance, and the role of institutional members. ALIA members are encouraged to comment on the issues raised in the Group's discussion paper as published in the June inCite and on ALIAnet. Responses may be forwarded by fax or mail to ALIA National Office or through the URL below. Specific questions can be directed to the Group at rwg@alia.org.au. Your responses are requested by 31 July 1999. http://incite.alia.org.au/1999/06/frontline.html; http://incite.alia.org.au/1999/06/change.html; and [http://www.alia.org.au/governance/review/renewal/option.response.html]

An inCite makover
We are making big changes to the presentation of inCite material on ALIAnet - and we hope that you like what you see (and read!). To allow for more content and a wider coverage of issues, we have remodelled and regrouped the pages to reflect each issue more closely. All of the regular columns are there (Frontline, Webb's Web, Workwatch, ALIAppointments...) - but now, with more: look for Your voice, Directline, feature articles, and additional links to relevant material. We're also in the process of updating all of the ancillary pages and links, so please excuse the plaster and paint http://incite.alia.org.au/1999/

Expanded General Council
The ballot for two institutional and two personal member positions on General Council as set out in Principle 1 of the Charter of Renewal is now being conducted. Ballot papers are being circulated with the June issue of inCite. A second ballot paper will be posted separately to joint members who receive one copy of inCite. Personal members financial as at 1 June 1999 and the nominated representative of institutional members financial as at 1 June 1999 are eligible to vote in this election. The ballot closes in ALIA National Office at 5.00pm on 15 July 1999. Votes received after that time will not be counted. Candidates' biographies and statement of concerns, plus further ballot information, is available at: http://archive.alia.org.au/governance/elections/1999/

Vice-president 2000, and Board of Education
Under the ALIA constitution nominations are now called for the following positions: vice-president (president-elect) for the year 2000; and three members of the Board of Education - two to be elected by members, one to be elected by General Council. Nominations close with the executive director in ALIA National Office at 5.00pm on 1 August 1999. The call for nominations is also to be published in the June and July issues of inCite. Further information is also available at: http://archive.alia.org.au/governance/elections/1999/

ALIA Annual General Meeting
The 11th ALIA annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday 17 August 1999 at 6.00pm at the State Library of NSW, Sydney: http://www.alia.org.au/governance/meetings/agm/1999.agenda.html

Revision of education policy statements
The ALIA Board of Education is seeking comments on the revision of 'Education policy statements: Introduction', and 'Education policy statement No. 1: Recognition of entry-level courses'. These policy statements form the basis of ALIA course recognition. They are being amended to incorporate the context of the statement the library and information sector: core knowledge, skills and attitudes. ALIA members have until 25 June 1999 to comment on these revised statements: http://archive.alia.org.au/governance/committees/boe/policies/revision499.html

Making the most of ALIAnet
In a quick tour of ALIAnet recently, it was noted that many of our divisional pages are bordering on emptiness, with many carrying a 'last updated sometime in 1997' badge. ALIAnet offers a free service for members to communicate and share contact details, events, resources, and much more. We would like to see it used to it's full capacity! Check on your divisional pages regularly - if they're not up to scratch, get involved and get the information you need in a place where you can access it easily.

Our updates form [http://www.alia.org.au/alianet/comment.html] is easy to use, and enables us to get your information on the web quickly.

Feedback
We have been thrilled by the response to aliaNEWS from subscribers. It is gratifying to know that we are providing a useful and timely information, and in a format that is easy to read. We now have countless supportive and constructive compliments (but are always eager for more!). As always, though, we would like to know your thoughts on what you would like to see in this broadcast, and how you would like to see it.

Send your comments to Ivan Trundle, manager, communications and publishing (please remove the '.nospam' from address).
