ALIA Summits

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has a responsibility, as the peak professional body for libraries in Australia, to bring the big issues to the attention of policy makers, government and the public.

One of the many ways we do this is to hold high level think-tank sessions. Senior figures from the library world meet with political influencers and decision-makers, to state the case, engage in debate, and lobby for the recognition and resources that are so often needed.

There have been two of these high level, by-special-invitation events in recent times:

ALIA Education and Workforce Summit , 30 March 2008

ALIA Public Libraries Summit , 16 July 2009

These events raise as many issues as they resolve. Work is progressing on the outcomes from the Education and Workforce Summit, while new challenges have emerged from the public libraries event. These will be addressed by the ALIA Public Libraries Advisory Committee , in partnership with other library organisations, including Public Libraries Australia, National and State Libraries Australasia and Friends of Libraries Australia.
