BINGO
There was a farmer had a dog,
And Bingo was his name-o.
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
B-I-N-G-O!
And Bingo was his name-o!
HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW?
Words and lyrics http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/howmuch.htm
How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!)
The one with the waggley tail
How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!)
I do hope that doggie's for sale
FIVE LITTLE PUPPIES
Five Little puppies were playing in the sun
This one saw a rabbit and he began to run
This one saw a butterfly and he began to race
This one saw a kitty and he began to chase
This one tried to catch his tail and he went round and round
This one was so quiet he never made a sound!
MARY HAD A LITTLE DOG (instead of lamb!)
Display ideas
- make a 'pet shop' display of cardboard boxes with stuffed toys and shredded paper
- make paw prints and placing them on the walls and floor around the library
Games
These great ideas come from Amazing Moms http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/party_dog_puppy.htm
- Have a dog biscuit scavenger hunt. Write numbers on the bones before hiding, then the children will receive a prize that corresponds to the number on their bone.
- Water bowl relay races with real dog bowls
- Tug of War
- Pin the tail on the puppy
- Play "Dog, Dog, Cat" instead of Duck, Duck Goose
- Feed Arthur Bean Bag Toss [Make a large drawing of a dog. Place it on an open cardboard box, or laundry basket. Provide a few bean bags (or soft foam balls) and the children will take turns trying to get the bean bags into the box.
- Puppy Match: Before the storytime print out some large pictures of dogs in varying breeds. Cut the pictures in half. Then hide them. Each child will find one half of a picture. They then need to find the player who has the other half that matches their dog breed. [or use the other animals from the story]
Crafts and Activities
- make dog ears on cardboard headbands
- if you have an outside area you could have a pet show
- make puppets of each of the animal characters, clip art images stuck on paddlepop/craft sticks
Publicity Ideas
- invite the local vet to storytime - or to pose for a photo to promote the event
- invite the local pet shop to partner with the library for NSS
- find a 'doggie mascot' for the storytime - perhaps a staff member's pet
- have a 101 dalmatians style photo opportunity surrounded by stuffed toy dogs
